ZL30302
Timing-over-Packet
Overview
Timing-over-Packet (ToP) technology enables accurate timing and synchronization to be distributed across asynchronous packet infrastructures, allowing carriers to confidently support time-critical services over packet networks.
The patent-pending ZL30301/2 ToP family is built on a processing engine and software solution that encodes and transmits a master clock over existing Ethernet, IP and MPLS networks, and recovers the clock at client nodes.
With ToP devices, Carriers can lower operating costs by migrating to a truly converged network supporting time-critical services, including voice, video and data services. In some applications, ToP technology replaces GPS receivers and T1/E1 connections that are traditionally required to ensure accurate synchronization.
Features & Benefits
- Transmits/recovers network synchronization over Ethernet/IP/MPLS infrastructures
- Recovered clocks are significantly better than T1.403 & G.823/G.824 Traffic Interface mask specifications for MTIE
- +/- 15 ppb frequency accuracy achievable
- Supports three modes of system operation:
- Master ? encodes a PRS (primary reference source) and distributes PRS over packet networks
- Slave ? clock recovery of the encoded PRS and generates a stable local clock
- Repeater ? clock recovery of the encoded PRS and redistribution of the local clock
