VSC8494
Overview
Quad Channel Universal 10G PHY or 10 GbE PHY with OTN/FEC and VeriTime™
Part of the SynchroPHY suite of 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), 10GE and 10GE OTN devices, the Microsemi VSC8494 quad Universal 10G PHY and the VSC8494-2 quad 10GE PHY with OTN-FEC are ideal for Carrier Ethernet switch/router and DWDM systems. Both devices feature VeriTime™ IEEE 1588, Microsemi’s patent-pending timing technology that delivers the industry’s most accurate IEEE 1588 network timing and synchronization implementation. Cost-efficient transponders based on the VSC8494 device cater to high volume 10GE/10G SONET/SDH and 8G/10G Fibre Channel. The VSC8494 and VSC8494-2 devices offer the ideal solution for multiport client and network interfaces on telecom transport linecards, transponders, and muxponders. These highly integrated devices support 10GE LAN Carrier Ethernet networks, as well as WAN and OTN networks, with an extensive suite of 10GE mapping modes. With its 10G PHY XFI/SFI interfaces and G.709 FEC features, the VSC8494 quad device provides a seamless and direct interface to XFP and SFP+ optical modules. With integrated 10GE LAN/WAN PHY XFI/SFI interfaces and G.709 FEC features, the VSC8494-2 quad device also provides a seamless and direct interface to XFP and SFP+ optical modules. The Microsemi VSC8494 and VSC8494-2 quad devices employ a bidirectional, independent channel architecture that can be used in both transponder (adaptation) and regenerator modes. Bidirectional performance monitoring is supported in both cases. The OTN mapper with FEC supports performance monitoring and maintenance features defined by the ITU-T G.709 standard, independent of the client signal carried, to simplify the operation of optical networks supporting various client signals. The VSC8494 quad device includes four 10G dual-mode bidirectional UPI client interfaces and four 10G bidirectional serial interfaces for direct connection to XFP or SFP+ optics modules or 10G serial backplanes. The Microsemi-defined Universal PHY Interface (UPI) delivers 10GE and 10GFC as four-lane XAUI, 10G SONET/SDH as four TFI-5-like serial lanes, and OTU2/ODU2 as four-lane SFI4.2-like interface. UPI also supports twice-rate XAUI (DDR XAUI or RXAUI) as two lanes operating at 6.25 G, and twice-rate SFI-4.2 for OTU2/ODU2. The VSC8494-2 dual device includes four 10G dual-mode bidirectional XAUI/SFI-4.2 client interfaces and four 10G bidirectional serial interfaces for direct connection to XFP or SFP+ optics modules or 10G serial backplanes. The Microsemi PHY interface delivers 10GE as four-lane XAUI and OTU2/ODU2 as four-lane SFI4.2-like interface. The PHY interface also supports twice-rate XAUI (DDR XAUI or RXAUI) as two lanes operating at 6.25G, and twice-rate SFI-4.2 for OTU2/ODU2.
