These small surface mount TVS devices feature the ability to clamp dangerous high voltage short-term transients such as produced by directed or radiated electrostatic discharge phenomena before entering sensitive component regions of a circuit design. They are small economical transient voltage suppressors targeted primarily for short-term transients below a few microseconds while still achieving significant peak-pulse-power capability as illustrated in Figure #1.

This surface mountable zener diode series is similar to the 1N3016 thru 1N3051 JEDEC registration in the DO-13 package except that it meets the surface mount DO-213AB outline. It is an ideal selection for applications of high density and low parasitic requirements. Due to its glass hermetic seal qualities and metallurgically enhanced internal construction, it is also well suited for high-reliability applications. This can be acquired by a source control drawing (SCD), or by ordering device types with MQ, MX, or MV prefix to part number for equivalent screening to JAN, JANTX or JANTXV.

The 1N5221BUR thru 1N5281BUR series of 0.5 watt Zener Voltage Regulators provides a surface mount equivalent to the popular JEDEC registered 1N5221B to 1N5281B for 2.4 to 200 volts in standard 5% tolerances as well as tighter tolerances identified by different suffix letters on the part number. These are also available with an internal-metallurgical-bond option by adding a “-1” suffix (see separate data sheet). Microsemi also offers numerous other Zener products to meet higher and lower power applications.

This SMBJ5.0-170A or SMBG5.0-170A series of surface mount 600 W Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVSs) protects a variety of voltage-sensitive components from destruction or degradation. It is available in J-bend design (SMBJ) with the DO-214AA package for greater PC board mounting density or in a Gull-wing design (SMBG) in the DO-215AA for visible solder connections. It is also available in both unidirectional and bidirectional configurations with a C or CA suffix part number as well as RoHS Compliant with an e3 suffix. Their response time is virtually instantaneous. As a result, they can be used for protection from ESD or EFT per IEC61000-4-2 and IEC61000-4-4, or for inductive switching environments and induced RF protection. They can also protect from secondary lightning effects per IEC61000-4-5 and class levels defined herein. Microsemi also offers numerous other TVS products to meet higher and lower power demands and special applications.

This popular Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) series for 1N6036 thru 1N6072A are JEDEC registered selections for bidirectional devices. All have the same high Peak Pulse Power rating of 1500 W with extremely fast response times. They are also available in military qualified selections as described in the Features section herein. They are most often used for protecting against transients from inductive switching environments, induced RF effects, or induced secondary lightning effects as found in lower surge levels of IEC61000-4-5. They are also very successful in protecting airborne avionics and electrical systems. Since their response time is virtually instantaneous, they can also protect from ESD and EFT per IEC61000-4-2 and IEC61000-4-4.
