Digital Predistortion IP Core:
Digital PreDistortion (DPD) is a high-performance technology that enables the use of power-efficient RF amplifiers in modern transmitter systems. Systems4Silicon supplies IP for a complete DPD sub-system that is customizable and independent of the target device.
The Systems4Silicon DPD solution provides significant advantages over vendor tied solutions:
- Scalable resource optimization for bandwidth, performance and multiple antennae/MIMO.
- Flexible licensing terms to suit your business and roadmap.
Technically advanced, our DPD technology offers the following benefits:
- Enables power efficiency by allowing amplifier operation in its non-linear region.
- Reduces amplifier distortion by up to 30 dB or more (ACLR).
- Enables multi-carrier operation.
- Automatic compensation for power amplifier memory effect and linear system non-idealities.
- Adapts to changing amplifier characteristics with age and temperature.
- Agnostic to transistor technology (e.g. LDMOS, GaAs, GaN) and amplifier topology (e.g. class A/B, Doherty).
- Agnostic to the communications standard - works with multi-carrier FDD, TDD, CDMA, OFDM etc.
- Low target resource footprint.
- Compatible with technologies such as Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) and Envelope Tracking (ET).
Crest Factor Reduction (CFR)
Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) enhances RF power amplifier efficiency by minimizing the ratio of the RF signal’s peak power to average power.Benefits of Systems4Silicon’s CFR technology include:
- Provides significant PAPR reduction from a single iteration structure, thereby minimizing added latency (e.g. 7.0 dB PAPR for 20 MHz LTE at 5% EVM).
- Configurable within system for use with single-channel, multi-channel and mixed-mode transmissions systems.
- Provides dynamic user controls for the tradeoff of PAPR reduction with in-band (e.g. EVM) and out-of-band (e.g. spectral emissions) requirements.
- Low target resource footprint.
- Compatible with technologies such as Digital PreDistortion (DPD) and Envelope Tracking (ET).
Both the DPD and CFR IP cores are supplied with comprehensive reference documentation and supported by experienced engineers from Systems4Silicon’s design services business.
