Analog Devices' Global Fight For Intellectual Property Protection Boosted; Indian Court Grants Injunction, Demonstrates Commitment Of Country's Judiciary
Thursday January 22, 10:25 am ET

NORWOOD, Mass. -(Dow Jones)- Analog Devices Inc. (NYSE:ADI - News) said a New Delhi court granted an injunction ordering an India-based distributor to immediately stop importing and distributing counterfeit semiconductor chips from a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer.

Analog Devices filed the lawsuit against Shanghai Belling Co. (Q.SBL) because the fake chips infringe on its copyrights and valid patents.

In a press release Thursday, Analog said the lawsuit alleges Belling has copied Analog's energy metering chips and is wrongfully trying to pass-off the counterfeit chips as substitutes for Analog's chips.

A spokesperson for Shanghai Belling wasn't immediately available for comment.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:CSCO - News) filed a lawsuit last year accusing China's Huawei Technologies Co. of copying Cisco's proprietary technology. The two sides agreed to suspend the lawsuit in October.

Texas Instruments Inc. (NYSE:TXN - News) and Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) are understood to be considering similar actions as chip shortages cause chip prices to surge, attracting counterfeiters who can make millions of dollars in fast-growing emerging markets such as India.
