-- Production Orders Received for Class D Audio ICs -- Efficient Design Requiring No Heatsink Sited -- Marriage of Two State-of-the-Art Products
SANTA ANA, Calif.--(Business Wire)--Feb. 14, 2001-- Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - news) today announced that it has received production orders for its new Class D Audio Amplifier IC from Benwin, the brand fast becoming recognized for its cutting-edge multimedia products.
The order for Microsemi's LX1710 mono class D audio IC are to be used on Benwin's award-winning line of flat panel speaker systems.
Introduced in August of 2000, the LX1710 is a Class D Audio IC having superior THD and signal-to-noise specs to its predecessor, the LX1720 -- a popular device for use in efficient wireless speaker systems. At 10 Watts, the LX1710 measures THD+N levels of 0.06% and an SNR of 81dBV for its single channel controller. Two versions of the IC are available, one for high power, and one for high fidelity.
``Our high efficiency is what attracted the Benwin group to our product technology. The consumer attraction to their flat speaker technology cannot be compromised by Audio amplifiers that require bulky heat sinks,'' commented Roger Holliday, vice president of product development for the Audio IC group.
``We are confident that combining our innovative IC technology and the Benwin proprietary flat speaker technology is an ideal fit to serving the multimedia audio market where space and power consumption are becoming increasingly important -- this is indeed a marriage of two state-of-the-art products.''
Benwin developed the world's first flat panel multimedia speaker system by applying advanced engineering along with cutting-edge laser technology and modeling. Their first flat panel speaker system introduced in 1997 broke every rule in loudspeaker design, reaching new heights of audio performance once thought impossible.
In commenting on the initial production order, Jim Vatrt, president and CEO of Benwin stated, ``The applications for our innovative flat panel speaker technology can be greatly improved by teaming with industry leaders like Microsemi to develop high-performance multimedia audio solutions.''
Future Product Development
Microsemi is currently expanding upon its successful development of high power Class D Audio Circuits like the LX1710 and its ultra low power 16 bit Class D Hearing Aid chips to develop energy efficient Digital Audio amplifier ICs for mobile handsets and PDAs.
