Powermite Applications

Battery Charge/Discharge Circuits

The trend in personal electronics is to reduce the size while increasing the functionality. Increased functionality typically equates to higher power requirements. POWERMITE is targeted at small portable end products like Cellular and Digital Phones, Pagers, and Palmtop Computers. The primary circuit function where the POWERMITE has found success is in Battery Charge/Discharge circuits. Microsemi’s products are typically housed in the Battery designs themselves or in the wall mount or automobile chargers. The circuit diagram to the right shows a typical circuit using the UPS5817 POWERMITE.

Antenna Switches

Today’s mobile telecommunications systems not only offer traditional voice and fax capabilities, but also provide data communications and multi-media capabilities. These enhanced system features require higher transmitter power and extremely low distortion performance than the traditional systems. In addition, the new system circuit designs are being realized using surface mount technology concepts. Microsemi’s Powermite meets all these requirements. Both the Quarter Wave Antenna Switch and the Broadband Antenna Switch circuits can be designed using UPP9401 PIN diodes for Mobile and Base Station applications. In designs where the forward bias Insertion Loss is critical, the UPP1004 series diodes exhibit values of Insertion Loss less than 0.1 dB at 10 mA forward bias.

PCMCIA Cards

How do you satisfy the requirements of a high density, low profile PCMCIA application? Well, you can be creative and design a layout using multiple SOT-23 devices in parallel to achieve the desired power levels or use one POWERMITE Schottky device, boasting a 1 Amp conservative rating while offering a lower profile design of 0.040" (1.02mm). As shown the POWERMITE essentially replaces four (4) SOT-23 dual Schottky devices.
