PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC Midspans Features

Introduction |Features |Specification

Remote Power Feeding - The PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC Power over Ethernet Hubs are connected to existing Ethernet or Fast Ethernet infrastructure and connects to standard Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) and shielded twisted-pair (STP) cabling. By sending -48Vdc over 100 meters, Ethernet terminals - including IP phones, wireless LAN access points and Web-cameras - can utilize power provided from the PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC Power over Ethernet Hubs. If a device is incompatible with the Power Hub, an external splitter is installed. The splitter separates the DC voltage and the Ethernet data signal into two separate wires, terminating at a power port and a RJ-45 jack.

Scalable Solution - The PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC Power over Ethernet Hubs support up to twenty-four Ethernet terminals. Multiple hubs can be deployed in the wiring cabinet to support more terminals providing a simple, cost effective method for expanding the network as requirements evolve. PowerDsine's Power over Ethernet Family includes the PowerDsine 6001, 6006 and 6012 and 6024 ACDC Power over Ethernet Hubs featuring 1, 6, 12 and 24 port solutions respectively.

Centralized Power Distribution Deploying Power over Ethernet in conjunction with a central UPS provides a cost-effective way to distribute back-up power and ensures uninterrupted operation of IP telephony even when main electrical power failures occur. IT managers can protect each IP phone with a small UPS, but the cost of installing and maintaining hundreds would be prohibitive.

Smart Ethernet Wiring - The PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC directly transfers data transmissions coming from Ethernet terminals on pairs 1/2 and 3/6. It acts as a normal patch panel for Ethernet connections ensuring continuous and reliable performance. Power is provided only on the unused Ethernet pairs 4/5 and 7/8.

Minimal Crosstalk and Insertion Losses - Normally, introducing DC into an Ethernet network would increase noise susceptibility of the system, thereby degrading the Ethernet signal. PowerDsine's state-of-the-art design ensures that power distribution does not interfere with concurrent network operation. The hub includes high-performance, robust RJ-45 shielded connectors, intelligent wiring layout and optimized line termination enabling the Power over Ethernet to operate as a fully integrated device for data communication and power.

Advanced Auto-Sensing Algorithm - PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC features a standard IEEE 802.3af auto-sensing algorithm, as well as backward compatibility to the pre-standard algorithm. This mechanism automatically detects Power over Ethernet - Ethernet terminals and supplies inline power. The per-port, sophisticated power control and monitoring circuit enables fast installation while ensuring continuous proper operation of devices, such as ordinary NICs that do not expect power on their Ethernet connection.

Easy to Use - The PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC Power over Ethernet Hubs are plug-and-play products. Once turned on, they automatically detect all Power over Ethernet - Ethernet terminals and supply inline power immediately, providing the terminal application is power-ready. All port interfaces are located on the front panel providing easy access.

Compact Size - The standard 19", 1U Power over Ethernet Hub allows easy rack mounting while consuming minimal space in the wiring closet.

Concise LED Displays - PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC provides real-time network monitoring through the front panel, including bi-color LED per port indicating normal and overload or short circuit conditions. Additional LED indicators are included for main power supply and internal self-test monitoring.

Wide Range of AC/DC Input - The PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC Power over Ethernet Hubs are available with AC/DC input power. The hubs support a wide range of AC input voltages at 88-264Vac and DC voltages at -48Vdc. This architecture provides the system administrator the freedom of choice to select the most appropriate input source according to the application.

Standard Compliance - PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC are fully compatible with the 802.3 standard when no inline is supplied and with the IEEE 802.3af DTE Power via Media Dependant Interface (MDI).

Power Management - This feature of the PowerDsine 6024/6012/6006 ACDC enables the handling of output power per port in the event of limited available power. Power management is achieved by monitoring the unit's input voltage and current. Output power is limited to the total available power and maximum power allowable per port. Parameters of Maximum Available Power, Ports priority, and Maximum Allowable Power per Port, can be set at the factory or in accordance to the customer's configuration.

SNMP Remote Management - The PowerView SNMP Management System offers complete management capabilities, enabling easy on-line supervision, configuration, monitoring and control of PowerDsine's Power over Ethernet devices. PowerView is based on a PC platform with Windows graphic user interface. The system offers three levels of password protected user access to control system usage or changes by appropriate personnel.
