Microsemi announced the launch of its Green Power over Ethernet Certification Program.
"The introduction of PoE into datacenters to support applications
like VoIP, WLAN and Network cameras increased the power requirements
from IT equipment by an order of magnitude. The Goal of the Green PoE
Certification Program is to stimulate end users to purchase energy
efficient Power over Ethernet Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) such as
PoE Switches and Midspans, reducing dramatically operating
expenditures." Said Daniel Feldman, Director of Marketing for Telecom
products at Microsemi Analog-Mixed Signal Group.
The Green PoE certification program tests the efficiency of PoE
Switches and Midspans and awards the "green" classification to the
performers in the 75th percentile of the market. This format mirrors
Energy StarTM programs and will be proposed to electric utilities as
the basis for potential new rebate programs.
