MicroBlade
Overview
MicroBlade Inc. is an Advanced Mezzanine Card (AdvancedMC ®) and MicroTCA ® products company, providing leading-edge technology components for use in telecommunications, enterprise, medical, industrial, and security markets.
Available Solution Partner Products and Services
MicroBlade is a pioneer in the growing MicroTCA market, supplying design solutions, firmware customization, and hardware modules and chassis.
Microsemi offers free Fusion-based Power Module (PM) reference designs for enhanced module management controller (EMMC) and AdvancedMC module management controller (MMC), which you can request online. MicroBlade offers a starter kit for the AdvancedMC design, including complete source code for the MicroBlade MMC firmware and production quantities of Fusion-based MicroBlade AdvancedMC and MicroTCA Power Module hardware, all orderable directly from MicroBlade.
Free Fusion-Based MicroTCA Power Module Reference Design
Microsemi partnered with MicroBlade to develop a Fusion-based MicroTCA Power Module reference design compliant with the MicroTCA version 1.0 standard implementing an EMMC using Core8051s and dual CoreI2C DirectCores. The PM IP and software platform includes an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) protocol stack compliant with IPMI specification 2.0, supporting IPMB-0 connection and the power module EMMC interface to a MicroTCA carrier hub (MCH).
Because Fusion devices deliver unprecedented integration in system management applications, MicroBlade has reduced the bill-of-materials (BOM) of typical MicroTCA power modules by over 50%. Fusion also reduces the system management footprint while delivering improved performance. Unlike EMMC implementations using slow, software-based microcontroller solutions, Microsemi can achieve the MicroTCA specification 100 µs switchover by implementing internal voltage monitoring and switchover functionality in FPGA logic gates.
Free Fusion-Based Advanced Mezzanine Card Reference Design
MicroBlade has also developed a Fusion-based AdvancedMC reference design, which reduces the BOM parts count and provides a unique reference design platform that includes hardware, firmware, and intellectual property. The AdvancedMC reference design is ready to plug into AdvancedTCA ® (ATCA) AdvancedMC carriers or MicroTCA chassis for evaluation and interoperability testing and conforms to the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG ®) AMC.0 ECR001 RC1.0 specification. It includes an MMC based on the Core8051s processor and CoreI2C.
In this reference design, MicroBlade provides a solution that uses Fusion for single-chip system management. The reduced parts count from single-chip system management offers better performance and more features than typical AdvancedMCs, which use microcontrollers and a number of additional discrete components. The Fusion-based solution also enables integration of payload and management functions, so users can achieve even higher levels of integration and cost savings. Microsemi flash FPGA devices also support in-system changes and upgrades that are often requested by telecom service providers, yielding an obsolescence-proof design.
MicroBlade also provides contract product development and manufacturing services for products based on the Power Module and AdvancedMC reference designs. Additional MicroBlade products include an assortment of AdvancedMC hard disk storage modules and a 1U chassis with integral Fusion-based EMMC cooling units.
